Mini Ego Compressor

Now widely regarded as the industry standard in guitar pedal compression, the Mini Ego Compressor brings a new level of of control to what is expected and needed by today’s guitar players, in a mini Format…

Mini Ego Compressor

What does a compressor do? A compressor adds an element of control to your playing level – it will bring the quieter parts up and the louder parts down. While an ordinary compressor pedal can give you an element of control, a great compressor will give you the “feel” that other average compressors lack. If you’ve played a great tube amp when it’s being pushed hard, you’ll know what a great natural compressor feels like.

Based on the incredible success of the original Ego but featuring switches for tone (dark and bright) and attack (slow and fast) you can tweak your tone to a standard of a pedal twice its size. By keeping the clean blend of the original, your original signal to be blended in so you can get all the benefits of a great compressor (picking up the notes that aren’t as strong and increasing sustain) but you have the option to remove the squash at the front by bringing the bypassed signal in. With this control, you can have full country squash or open studio level parallel compression. Basically, the Mini Ego gives you complete control of every aspect of your compression.

So, with a comprehensive array of controls and a core tone that is pure, you won’t find a compressor that works perfectly as an “always on” or as “an effect” that is more highly regarded than the Mini Ego from Wampler Pedals.

A Modern Classic

The Ego Compressor has become a modern classic and has become the first choice for musicians of every genres, all over the world. It doesn’t matter if you need full country squish, a tone fattener, something to level out the dynamics or just a completely transparent boost, the Ego – and now the Mini Ego – will suit you perfectly. It’s the kind of compressor you don’t realize is on until your tone disappears when it’s turned off.

Complete Control

It may be tiny, but you have ALL the control you need. Attack, Release, Tone, Volume and the all important Blend control, you can tailor the Mini Ego to slot perfectly in to your rig. From full country squish, to punchy dynamics, everything you need is right there.

It’s not just for Country

Although compression is loved by country players, so many other players are using it to apply fatness and control to their tone… The Mini Ego allows you to retain your tone, retain your dynamics, but still give you the benefits. Have a look at the pro players boards, you’ll find compression, it’s what makes them sound so awesome.

  1. Chris

Excellent comp pedal. Also love the sparkle blue too. I’m sure it makes my tone that much more unicorn dust

  2. Andrea

This really is a great compressor pedal, and I have tried many.
It’s incredibly quiet even at extreme settings and it seems to amplify much less the noise from the guitar and pedals that come before in the chain than any other comp pedals I tried.
The tone switch really works for adding a bit of extra sparkle. I keep the attack switch on long as it lets the signal breathe way more. The short attack could be useful for certain styles but it doesn’t work as well for me.
Interesting, the website say that there is negligible difference when running it at 18V, but on my rig the difference is very audible. I like a very hearable compression effect, with a snappy and percussive attack on the transients and 18V with the sustain on full really gives out that tone. Of course it may well not be a sound for everybody, but if you want it you can get it on this pedal.
I couldn’t be happier – it’s easily quiet even when maxed out on all knobs and super versatile.
Now I am so curious to try the big version though…

  3. Brian Keith Lowe (verified owner)

Wow. The one word that truly describes this pedal. I am a comp junkie, and have been since my first CS1 I got in high school, but I found, either by design or just plain old user error, that my sound was always too squished and buried. I need a comp to go from chicken pickin’ to that amazing Jamie West Oram Fixx kind of compression…or the later Alex Lifeson kind of thing. The mini Ego nails everything I need. The blend knob is pure magic, and unless I have it set for a heavy comp (ala One thing leads to Another) its on all the time. I actually notice it more when its off. When I use it for just my standard country thing, it never loses my guitar in the effect, and the blend knob keeps my guitar signal out front where I like it. Plus, for a big dummy like me, as Fred G Sanford would say (the G stands for Gear junkie), there aren’t too many controls for me to go ape with and kill my tone, which is quite easy on other blue comps out there. Every setting is very musical, and major league useful. I’ve dug BW’s past pedals, and had an early Hot Rod in pink sparkle…and with Brian’s new line of the Mini pedals, ala the Plexi Drive and Tumnus, there is more to fall in love with. Kudos to Brian and his team, and God Bless Amanda for putting up with a mad scientist. Thanks Brian…you win again.

      Thanks Brian! Appreciated 🙂

  4. Biofilmz

Love this little guy. Just bought my second for my mini-pedal board. I dare you to listen to the Brett Kingman video and not think this would be a key pedal in your arsenal.

  5. Lucian

Sounds great and built tough enough to hit your mate that doesn’t like compression over the head with it until he concedes that everyone needs compression in their life, specifically the mini ego.

  6. Ross Willis

Extremely functional mini pedal. Bought this for playing Beatles songs, but finding I like it on all the time on my clean tone. Nice one Brian! This is my first Wampler, but I’ll definitely be back fore more.

  7. Zack Rosenberg

This was my first Wampler pedal and has been my most used as I have it on 99% of the time. I never had a compressor before, so wanted to check it out because of the reputation of the original Ego and knowing that compression is a big part of David Gilmour’s tones.

The blend knob is outstanding! I keep it at 20-30% and it’s the perfect amount to smooth out the extremes of my dynamics and add sustain to my drive pedals. So many choices in such a small pedal! I will always recommend the Mini Ego to anyone who is looking to get into using compressors.

  8. Yuriy

Excellent tiny pedal. Works perfectly with guitar/bass.
I really like how attack and tone switches work!

I keep it on my bass mini-pedalboard and it’s one of those must-haves you should keep even if you keep it ascetic
