The pedal that inspired this circuit has been around for a long time in various forms but most versions of it have too much of a “Hi Fi” sound about them, they fail to get the right mix of clarity and bass that is needed to make this overdrive sing. Brian has added further gain capabilities to this circuit, and added a bass control that controls all the harmonics from smooth and creamy to tight and crunchy.

The sound this circuit delivers is a firm favorite in Nashville and Brian Wampler’s take is everything you would expect it to be – high quality components, a beautiful enclosure, and a glorious tone.  If you set the gain low and the bass control up high, you get a wonderful clean boost sound that can rival any Klone circuit, but when you spin the bass down and the gain all the way up, you suddenly find yourself with an awesome transparent overdrive / medium distortion sound with all the crunch you need.

The Color control is more than just a standard tone control and it’s pretty unique to this circuit. Dialling it right or left will either boost or cut the high and low end a little, but the midrange frequencies are left well alone.  Combine this with the Bass control and you have a very versatile tone shaping palette with Wampler’s legendary ease of use. Brian has also added a push switch on the side which will control the amount of compression and alter the clipping structure in the circuit for some extra punch.

This pedal can add some serious muscle to your country, some extra grit to your blues, and some soaring boosts to rock – it’s such a flexible drive we know you are going to love stacking it with your favorite pedals as much as playing it straight through a clean amp.

This thing is absolutely sick. I previously owned a Nobels ODR mini and fell in love with the sound. What I didn’t love, though, was the overwhelming bass; it sounded great with some guitars and amps, but it was too much with others.

Enter the Belle. This takes everything that makes the ODR great, then adds a bass control and a clipping switch! Using a neck pickup into the Belle is simply tonal heaven — it reminds me quite a bit of an overdriven Tweed Bassman.

    A+

  2. Will Cassady (lens music 98105)

I don’t even know why there are any other overdrives

  3. Mr. Toad

Love the tone I get from this. I tried Wampler’s Hot Wired first and loved the B side but the A side was not quite there. This one is! Hey Brian, combine this one with the B side of the Hot Wired and you got it!
Only negative is the switch on the side. Love what it does but inconvenient location. Better if you could utilize one of the other controls as a push/push switch to activate it. That would make it 5 stars!

  4. Sean Jessie

Just got the Belle on Friday and I have to say, it’s one of the best I have. I have it going through Marshall DSL 40CR and it. Just does so much. I also have it running into a Pantheon deluxe and Plexi Drive deluxe with a Tumnus Deluxe in front of it. Holy cow, my strat has never sounded so good! I’m a huge Wampler fan and they have hit yet another home run with the Belle! Forever Wampler fan!

  5. David DesRoches

Summary of findings with the Belle: two issues:

    1) I found the mids to be too weak, even with turning down the color knob to help expose the mids. No luck. This isn’t tooo bad on chords, but not helpful for riffs. Even with the color knob turned down (to allow some amplitude breathing space for the mids i couldn’t rescue them – No amount of turning the color knob allowed the mids to come thru.
    – the color knob introduces highs that are a too high frequency-wise, sounds more like a presence knob than a normal treble knob.

    Details:

Compared Belle to Tumnus Deluxe and JRockett Rockaway Archer.

Guitars: Fender US Elite Tele; Rickenbacker 330; Gretsch Tennessee Rose.

Amp: Friedman BE50 (clean channel) into 4×12 Marshall cab with V30’s

    EQ pedal: Boss EQ200

    Findings:

The Rockaway and Tumnus Deluxe are based on Klons, known for strong midrange.

I found the Belle to be lacking in midrange heft, and needed to use the EQ200 to add mids and some lows before the pedals.

The Belle has more of a hi-fi tone – very full-range – lots of bass and treble compared to the Tumnus and Rockaway.
The Gretsch Tennessee Rose seemed to like the Belle. The other two guitars preferred the Tumnus Deluxe and Rockaway:

    Mind blown!
I had a very fulfilling long jam yesterday with what I thought was my Analog Man King of Tone. When I stepped over to my board to change pedals I was surprised to see that I had been going through the Wampler Belle the whole time???? So I started AB’ing back and forth between the KOT and Belle in various settings I was able to match both the tone and playing feel of the KOT. I literally couldn’t hear or feel a difference. The benefit of the Belle is with the side button engaged I can hit my AC30 a little harder without the flub. Well done!

  7. Tim McKim

This is the best gain pedal I have ever owned and I have bought and sold alot of them in the last 30 years. It sounds great with my tele and great with PRS humbucker guitar. I purchased it to stack with my Tumnus pedal but I can’t stop playing it all by itself. It give me great control over my tone with a little AC 10 vox amp. Totally satisfied with this pedal. Wampler hits a home run!

    • Wampler Pedals

      Thanks Tim!

  8. Bobby Lane

I’ve been through a lot of overdrives searching for something that provides amp-like crunch into a clean amp. This is it!
It takes a boost in front of it great to get over the top dirt. And, bonus, it’s fantastic at boosting a dirty amp to the next level. Love it.
In just a couple of weeks it has become one of my favorite od pedals, ever.

  9. Loren

I had 2 Nobels on my board years ago and don’t even know why I got rid of them. This pedal totally takes me back and gives so much more functionality than the originals. The Belle is only the first of many pedals I’m about to drop money on from Wampler. Thanks for amazing products guys!

    • Wampler Pedals

Thanks for your kind words, Glad you love our products!

I’ve always wanted an Alt/Country pedal to play w/ humbuckers(Not a Tele guy); Old Nobels, New Nobels, Mojo Hand Fx, but this is the ONE & ONLY. I was lost & now I finally found it. Thanks so much, Brain Wampler

I went through quite a few overdrives before landing on this one. Safe to say it’s my all-time favourite!

    • Wampler Pedals

Thank you – we think its a great drive too!

  13. John E.

Quickly turning into one of my favorite pedals! Right next to my long time favorite Tumnus!

  14. Brent S

    Simply awesome!
I can’t dial in a bad tone on it! I will be removing my Keeley mod TS9, and another long time favorite for the Belle! She will join my paisley, ego, and terra!
    Thanks Brian and staff!!!

  15. Mike the shoe guy

This pedal is fantastic. I could not recommend it more, and I have owned at least 50 drive pedals – including the duelist, the protein, the Gladio, and the King of Tone, and I build many pedals for myself and freinds. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I prefer this tiny, silly little green pedal to most of my other drives now. I was NOT expecting this to be the case. Seriously, its good. I don’t ever write reviews, but felt I should for this one as it truly impressed me. Nice job Wampler team.

  16. David Sommerville

Mine just came today, and I couldn’t be happier. Absolutely nails the tone and fits the job I was after. It pairs beautifully with my mini-Ego compressor. Another Wampler home run!
