12 reviews for Terraform

  1. Cody McCombs

Of all of the modulation bundle pedals the Terraform is the best that is currently available. I had another mod effect (filter, phaser and flanger) made by a respected pedal company who puts out great products and compared to the analog versions it just didn’t measure up. The Terraform is the best voiced multimod pedal out there. I’ve spent many hours with it but hadn’t noticed that the tap tempo and rotory ramping was not functioning. I called the help line and talked to a guy called Jerry. He described how to reset the pedal which was easy and was successful. Thanks to Jerry for helping me with my problem. This is my first Wampler pedal but will probably not be my last. Cheers!

Wow. What a great sounding pedal. Love the simplicity to get the tone you want and have more time to play. Almost perfect, but 1 star off, because of only 8 Presets. Other Pedals offer more here. It would be OK if there was a way to use CC messages to tweak the 5 controls. So maybe we can hope for an update! Greetz

  3. Scott Johnson

Once I placed this pedal on my board it helped me remove 7 others. This has everything anyone could ever need modulation wise. All of the effects sound perfect to me. It took no time at all to dial in the exact sound I wanted.
I don’t remove pedals often but when I do their is a REASON. I really enjoy this pedal. Buy one and give it a try.

  4. Dan Hall

I’m not one to usually leave reviews, however, after my experiences with the Terraform, I feel like I would be doing a disservice to Wampler Pedals and the rest of the guitar community by not doing so.

I am a fairly long-time user of several Wampler pedals, and I have been happy with every one of them (Paisley Drive, Pantheon, Plexi Drive, Tumnus, Clarksdale, Ego Compressor, Euphoria), however, I have to admit I was still slightly hesitant to give the Terraform a try, just because I viewed Wampler as a specialist in simple analogue pedals, mostly of the front-of-amp gain-based variety. The reason why I gave the Terraform a shot was because I was looking to condense my pedalboard and possibly condense my collection of pedals too. I read a lot of great reviews, and so, I took the plunge.

I knew because it was a Wampler product that the physical construction would at very least be bulletproof (it definitely is), however, because of the nature of many “multi FX” type pedals, I was expecting there to be a tonne of compromise in tone as a trade-off for convenience. I was very wrong. I have tried many “specialist” pedals for several of the FX types that the Terraform comes with. Here’s how it sounded to my ears through my rig in a side-by-side comparison:

-Dimension: sounded identical to the Boss DC-2W Waza Craft Dimension C. I don’t own an original DC-2, so I can’t comment on how accurately the Terraform gets that sound, however, it can sound exactly like the Waza Craft DC-2W, which is Boss’s own recreation of their original pedal. In the Terraform, you also have the adjustable parameters, as opposed to just the four push buttons.
-Chorus: for this mode, I compared to a TC Electronic Corona Chorus, a Boss Waza Craft CE-2W, a JHS Emperor, and a Strymon Ola. The Terraform sounds more pleasing overall to me than all of those pedals. Way better than both the Strymon and the TC, and similar to the Boss. The tonality is different as compared to the JHS, however, it is able to achieve as fast of a speed as the JHS. Also, with the blend knob at 100%, you get a true-pitch vibrato that sounds much better than the CE-1 vibrato mode on the CE-2W.
-Harmonic Tremolo, I don’t have anything to compare this to specifically, but it sounds good to me.
-Tremolo: I compared the Terraform to a Boss TR-2, a JHS Kodiak, as well as to the tremolo on my 1979 Fender Deluxe Reverb. Tremolo is a pretty simply effect, hard to mess this one up. I will say that speed range is equivalent to that of the Boss TR-2 and the Fender Deluxe Reverb amp tremolo, however, the Terraform is able to go deeper (more intense) than the JHS and the Fender amp. The addition of the volume control is a nice touch as compared to the Boss.
-Auto Swell: nothing to compare this to, but the effect works well and it sounds good.
-Rotary: here’s another important one to me. I’ve been a big fan of the Strymon Lex (I think it sounds substantially better than Strymon’s own Mobius Rotary setting), and I can honestly say that the Terraform sounds better and more realistic to me than the Lex. The Terraform doesn’t have as many tone shaping options as the Lex does, but the important items are all there, such as the independent horn and woofer speeds, and the ramp speed.
-U Vibe: I tried this agains the TC Electronic Viscous Vibe and the JHS Unicorn v2, and the Terraform actually makes a sound that I could see myself really using. I won’t go into the details, but I will say that I’ve always enjoyed guitar sounds with some univibe on them, but it’s not an effect that ever worked out for me nicely, but the Terraform UVibe setting seems to be something that I could actually work with. This was actually the one effect that I saw the most positive feedback on from other reviews.
-Phaser: I’ve tried a few phasers over my playing career, the TC Electronic Helix, the Empress Phaser, the MXR Block Logo Phase 90, and the only one that I’ve liked enough to keep was the MXR CSP101SL, which is their script logo vintage reissue with the AC adaptor Jack and the LED indicator. I thought for sure that this would be the one additional modulation pedal that would be left on the board, alongside the Terraform, but nope, the Terraform does everything (and more) of what I like about the MXR script Phase 90 (which is the ability to not boost the signal and cause distortion!)
-Flanger: a couple of pedals I’ve compared to were the MXR Micro Flanger and the Strymon Orbit. The Terraform’s Flanger mode is like combining the analogue warmth of the MXR, with the tweakability and the ability to get weird sounds like the Strymon. Best of both worlds!
As for the Envelope Filter and the Auto Wah modes, they are both effect types that I’ve never used before, so, I don’t have a frame of reference for comparison. I will say that these effects sound neat, and they possess a pleasing tonality throughout the sweep of all of the controls.

Great job Wampler, a real home run!

BTW, the foot switches and the knobs/potentiometers on the Terraform are the best feeling/smoothest I’ve ever seen on any pedal, however, the preset button (as mentioned by others) is a weak point. If it was replaced with a third awesome metal foot switch, that would make this an utterly perfect pedal.

  5. Bjørn from Denmark

Great sounding and easy to use pedal. [ONE BIG CONCERN described further down]. For me it wins on the simplicity with no menus and no secondary functions on the knobs. The idea of the default preset for each effect is brilliant (it is presets beside the 8 user storable presets)- allowing you to instantly finding a classic sound and then tweak it from their to your own preference. The midi implementation could have been more advanced – especially if expression could have been controlled via midi because many use their midi controller as a hub for controlling expression on more pedals. And of course it would be great if you had more than 8 user storable preset when using midi. But that’s just dreams. ONE BIG CONCERN about the pedal (at least mine) is the preset button. It is small and flimsy and it teases me to often by not working on both push and hold function and then suddenly working making me mess up what I am trying to program. Wampler Customer Service even themselves described the button as “fragile”. Would be great if that button could have been more sturdy and reliable. Maybe even one that you could stomp on? Maybe Wampler have a solution how to fix this problem by som sort of mod that your local repairman can do? Mine could of course be the one faulty out of a million, but I think it is the pedals only major design flaw on a quiet import button.

  6. Andrew Hall

The terraform is, in my opinion, the best modulation pedal you can get*. All the algorithms are great, and it only takes a few minutes to dial in some of the most classic univibe, chorus, rotary, trem, phaser (and many more) sounds. I have only one gripe. It only has a total of 8 presets! Brian, can I suggest you implement the same preset call-up system as the Kismet Overdrive? It retains the simplicity of the four preset lights while also unlocking 127 presets. Best of both worlds.

*if you don’t want to spend your valuable playing time ‘tweaking’, programming and searching internet forums. If you prefer to spend you time tweaking and programming, get an Eventide H9.

  7. Andrea Posarelli

Hi guys this pedal sound really terrific, I just wondering why just 8 preset to recall via midi…?
Can you please, please, please add more to recall…???

    Bye from Italy…

  8. GuitarJoe66

I’ve been tweaking my Terraform side by side with my modulation pedals. So far, I’ve got a dead on accurate emulation of the setting on my Boss Wazacraft CE2 in CE1 mode, and the Univibe is actually sounding better than my Fulltone MDV-3. This thing is just outta sight. I’ve never been more impressed by any pedal.

  9. Bart Moser

It sounds great. This will replace two, possibly three pedals I already have. I really like the versatility of all of the controls with no menus to scroll through. I also like that it has a smaller footprint than other brands and can even use MIDI.

  10. Jamie M Harrison (verified owner)

Terraform has been long awaited and it didn’t disappoint! If you’re looking for a small package with a lot of modulation power this is it. It holds its own against all the big names in the market (Boss/Strymon/Empress etc) and still has its own personality. Each model sounds wonderful and pairs perfect with the Wampler lineup. Now I finally have an all Wampler board with multiple drives, delays, and now delicious modulation. The dimension alone is worth the price of admission!

Easy to use, Lots of sounds, and Not too expensive. It’s a home run!

  11. Michael Hecker

Now that a lot of people already have the Terraform and I’ve had hours to play it… This thing is just as close to perfection as exists in the pedal world. I have always loved the sound and analog modulation pedals and generally speaking, the versatility of digital pedals. Unfortunately, digital pedals have always lost out because their versatility couldn’t trump my need for warm analog tone…and most importantly, feel. The Terraform crushes all the others. When I play a chorus, it sounds analog. The phaser sounds analog. The flanger, analog. The envelope filter has the same bounce as analog. The tremolo sounds like an amp. They all feel analog! Buy it. Buy it now.

  12. Scott Bowers

Love this pedal! Everything you want in one pedal, I got rid of my several other pedals and still have more effects with the Terraform.
