Steve Vai – Stolen Guitar and benefit for Tony McAlpine

We are all pretty upset to find out that one of Vai’s favourite guitars, “BO”, was stolen from outside the Wiltern Theatre in L.A. on Saturday. As always, Wampler Artist Dave Weiner was there with Vai for the show and he’s told us that Vai is extremely keen to see his guitar returned! As you can imagine, the whole world is looking for the guitar, it would be great if you could also!

The show was for the Tony McAlpine fund raiser for his fight again colon cancer which makes it all the more shocking.

You can see BO in the hands of the man himself above in a picture taken by Jason a couple of years ago. BO is extremely individual, here are some details – you can see more pictures of BO in the complete photoset here:

  • It’s a mirror Ibanez JEM with blue LED’s,
  • Fernandez Sustainer system in the neck;
  • red laser built into the headstock/neck.
  • The forearm contour is also cracked/distressed a bit.
  • Serial #F0006311

There are more details about the guitar and it’s individual features here. Check out this video from the show, which despite the loss of guitar, they rocked!

We hope that the musicians community will keep their eyes open for this extremely individual instrument. I can’t see how it can be sold anywhere without people working out what it is so here’s hoping that it comes home soon!
